Leopard
Lodge, Kafue National Park, Zambia
Leopard
Lodge is a secluded, family-run game lodge
on the banks of the Kafue River in a game
management area surrounded by Zambia’s
Kafue National Park.
The
lodge consists of 5 individually thatched
chalets and special arrangements can be made
for camping. Most of the thatched brick-built
chalets sleep 2 people, with en-suite facilities,
but extra beds can be placed on the enclosed
veranda. One chalet has 2 rooms, sharing
a bathroom. Mosquito nets are provided for
all beds and all bedding is “100% percale
cotton”. A restaurant and bar are available.
A
comprehensive refurbishment programme was
undertaken during 2006/2007, which saw Leopard
Lodge emerging as a secluded, charming and
well-equipped camp with glorious views of
the Kafue River and plains.
As
you might expect, activities focus on fishing,
boat cruises, bird watching & game viewing
on foot or by vehicle (incl. night drives). Some
4km from the camp is a natural hot spring,
while the hill behind affords views over
the surrounding area. There are also future
plans for scenic flights, micro lights, sunset
cruises & a mini health spa.
Most
of the activities can be done outside the
park, but allowance should be made for at
least two park entries during your stay.
The minimum recommended stay is 4 nights
at the camp; the minimum nights to be booked
is three nights.
The
Kafue River is perennial and is beautifully
clean. The fishing is excellent (ask the
fish eagles!)
Leopard
Lodge is committed to conservation, protection
of the environment and the creation of opportunities
for the people from the local area. All building
has been done by local craftsmen and even
the tables, chairs and doors were made on
site. |
